What happens in this course?
Using just three green woodworking tools you will carve a spoon from a locally grown tree. This course covers axe skills and safe knife grips. Aimed at both complete beginners and those who’ve made spoons before and would like to hone their skills and designs.
Spoon carving is a meditative search for perfection. You will spend the day carving a fresh piece of locally sourced wood in our outdoor workshop. This course is taught by one of our expert local tutors.
You can follow this course up with our Bowl Carving or Bowl Turning course. Or if you want to begin with something simpler, start with our Make a Spatula course. If you really catch the bug you can join the Introduction to the Workshop course and become and member of our cooperative.

Access to the workshop is through the cafe garden or Haggerston Park (not the Farmyard).

Things to remember
We have no indoor space and will be working outside in all weathers (under a tarp if it rains) so please come prepared. No sandals or bare feet please. Walking boots or work boots if you can, a thick sole will help to keep your feet warm in cold weather. In winter, fingerless gloves can be good, but no full gloves when working with tools. If you use reading glasses please bring them with you.
Tea and coffee are provided. There is also a cafe onsite.
