London Green Wood

The workshop is moving to Hackney City Farm. We will be open for members and courses from April 2021.

London Green Wood is a not-for-profit cooperative and a community of green woodworkers based in Hackney. Our aim is to encourage crafty-ness, creativity and self-reliance in everybody. From our outdoor woodland workshop, using locally felled wood, we bring heritage crafts to the heart of the city and make basic woodcraft skills available to all. We use hand tools and green wood straight from the log.

Green woodwork courses

We have been running events and teaching courses at our outdoor workshop since 2011. We promise gentle teaching, a beautiful setting, friendly people, the satisfaction of learning new skills and a fire when it gets chilly.

We run courses for adults, for families, for group bookings (away days, bonding, parties or just because) and deliver woodworking sessions in partnership with other community groups.

A cooperative workshop

We are a cooperative. The members’ workshop is open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and the first weekend of each month. During members’ sessions there is no formal teaching but there are people around to advise. Tools and wood are provided. Membership is open to anyone who supports the aims of LGW and has sufficient green woodworking experience to work independently. We suggest that anyone interested in becoming a member of the coop join our Intro to Green Woodwork course, which is also an induction to the workshop space.
